Instagram Influence Report – Athletic Apparel
Welcome back to our industry benchmark series, an ongoing research project where we examine the degree of influence brands from various industry categories have on Instagram. This week, we’re examining the top athletic apparel brands on Instagram. Some key findings:
- Nike is first place in posts and engagement – it’s probably no surprise to find that athletic brand Nike takes the top prize for both the highest number of Instagram posts and engagement during the time period studied. Research suggests the company spent more than $3.3 billion worldwide in 2017 to boost awareness with consumers.
- Reebok has a strong finish thanks to Gigi Hadid – athletic brand Reebook came in at third place in Instagram engagement during the period studied. One reason for the brand’s success may be its partnership with social media phenomenon Gigi Hadid. The supermodel’s more than 37 million Instagram followers help ensure that Reebook sees plenty of comments and likes on her sponsored posts.
- Designer Philipp Plein helps boost Puma – German fashion designer Philipp Plein has earned plenty of Instagram attention for his back and forth with sportswear firm Puma over the company’s iconic “cat” logo. The designer’s post on Instagram about his use of a similar logo has likely helped boost the profile of his own brand but also the Instagram awareness surrounding Puma, which came in second for Instagram contributors and third in number of posts.
