Campaign Spotlight: Olympics Influencer Marketing Campaigns That Are Going for Gold
Jul 18, 2024 - Published by:Andrew Chen
With the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris almost underway, brands have been strategically preparing for the once-in-four-year advertising event. Although the games haven’t begun, many brands have already started to launch their Olympics influencer marketing campaigns. Here are some campaigns that have launched early and are looking to score gold medals with their audience.
Reese’s Legend v. Newcomer Campaign
An official sponsor of Team USA, The Hershey Company’s Reese’s brand is partnering with Team USA Olympian and Paralympian duos for a campaign dubbed “Legend v. Newcomer”. For their campaign, Reese’s is releasing limited-edition Reese’s chocolates in the shape of Olympic medals and partnering with longtime US Women’s National Team soccer star, Alex Morgan, as well as more recent star, Sophia Smith. Additionally, Reese’s is also partnering with Paralympic Team USA swimmers, Jessica Long and Haven Shepherd. Throughout the several pieces of content, one post from Alex Morgan stood out in particular with over 4.2M estimated impressions.
BIC’s Busy Month with Charlie Puth, Snoop Dogg, and Martha Stewart
As a big player in the back-to-school season, BIC has a busy month ahead of them. BIC is launching two separate star-studded campaigns during the month of July, with the first already underway. BIC strategically launched its back-to-school campaign with Charlie Puth earlier in the month to avoid competition and interest from the Olympics later in the month. Their campaign with Charlie Puth has notably driven over 3.9M estimated impressions along with over 9.7M video plays! Later in the month, BIC will run its Olympics influencer marketing campaign where Snoop Dogg will provide a sports-esque commentary over a video featuring Martha Stewart utilizing BIC’s EZ Reach lighter.
TikTok and Team Great Britain
As an official partner of Team Great Britain and the Paralympics Great Britain teams, TikTok partnered with a group of British Olympians. It is reported that TikTok plans to release exclusive content highlighting insights into the journey of Team GB athletes, helping to build community, connection, and support behind their team solely on the TikTok platform. When asked about the campaign, TikTok Sports Marketing Lead EU, Aoife Moran had this to say:
“Every day, people come to TikTok and get inspired to try new things. We’ve seen how this moment of inspiration can snowball into something bigger and can change people’s lives. As we look ahead to the Olympics and Paralympics, we wanted to celebrate the power of community, creativity and athletic excellence, and show how our athletes’ journeys can inspire people to start something new and embrace their passions.”
An official partner of the Olympics, Intel partnered with Team GB pole vaulter, Molly Caudery to take her audience behind the scenes. Through this partnership, Caudery walks viewers through how she is leveraging Intel’s AI to analyze her pole vault biomechanics to improve her performance.
In conclusion, although the Olympics are not yet underway, many Olympics influencer marketing campaigns have begun. Partnering with former and active Olympic athletes will undoubtedly be a popular strategy this Summer, however, BIC demonstrated how a brand can take part in the festivity even when partnering with traditional celebrity creators.
